Unique Vintage French Soldier In Pencil And Chalk

This is a fabulous pencil and chalk portrait. It is of a French soldier in an uniform from the late 19th or early 20th century. Is he from the French Foreign Legion?? Such an interesting study!! There is no signature or identify marks. It is drawn on a piece of parchment type paper. It is almost like it was drawn on a whim. Who was this handsome soldier? Who was the person who drew him? Those answers have been lost over the years. He is in a old wooden frame done in gold which has wear from the years, but some how suits him. 7 1/2" by 10". Thanks for dropping in!!
