An elegant 1950s Picard, Swiss seventeen jewel gold filled ladies watch. Surrounding the watch face is a deeply ribbed design. The numbers on the watch are clear, and readable, even by those of us who have to discretely take out our glasses. There are four numbers the twelve, three, six and nine, and two gold lines between each number. The watch does not have a second hand, and I believe it never did. The wristband has a fascinating and attractive ribbed fan design; it actually looks like a motif from the Art Deco period. The watch is in perfect working order, but particular about how it is wound, requiring eleven rotations daily. In case some of us never knew or forgot; it is imperative that one never over-wind a watch, or it stops working!

The watch is stamped on the case 10K G. Filled. The watch face is marked PICARD 17 Jewels and Swiss. I was shown the inside of the case and wrote down what I saw, but I can’t figure out how the case was opened and I don’t want to break the watch. What I wrote down from what I saw inside the watch was: Certina EA, Cased and Timed by Illinois watch case co., 853 Dundee Ave. Elgin, Illinois, 10K Gold filled", 3014, and 7473915. On the band it is stamped Gemex", Pat. Pend., Made in U.S.A., and R.

The case on the wristwatch measures approx 3/4”across and 1” up and down. The band fits my arm, but was a little snug, My wrist measures 7 1/2”. It is easier if the band is too large; a jeweler can remove links. This is a fabulous 1950’s watch for anyone who loves time especially remembrances of time past!
