I purchased this exquisite French Paste Photo frame on a recent buying trip in France. This is by far is the best frame I have ever had. The circa on this frame is 1860~1880. The frame is completely French Paste Rhinestone encrusted with the most elaborate ribbon type decoration. I have acid tested the silver metal with the embedded rhinestones and it tests for a low silver content (most likely 800.) The frame's base under the original beautiful deep royal blue velvet is wood. The back was covered with sturdy blue material. The original oval glass insert is that fabulous wavy glass (only found with true antique glass.) Please note, it was impossible for me to get a good photo of this but you will notice it immediately upon receiving.

This is a hanging picture frame and it is quite a large piece. The frame measures 8 1/8" x 6 1/4" across. The frame hangs 11 1/2" long. The actual glass portion where the photo would be inserted is 4" x 3 1/4."

The condition of this frame is Very good to Excellent for its age. There are no velvet rubs which is truly remarkable for a piece of this age. The frame is completely original (including the blue twisted rope it hangs from) with the exception of the backing. It was most likely a cardboard material that did not hold up over the past 150 years. I made a new backing which is a sturdy light blue cardboard. I cut and then covered it with a Vintage light blue Silk Chinoiserie fabric. I created a small tab at the top so you can easily pull it away from the frame to allow access to the glass and insert your photo, portrait or painting.

If you are a high end frame collector, or a collector of fine French Paste, it simply does not get any better than this. This piece is museum quality. I must say, we are having a very rainy day in California so the photos really do not do the piece justice. It is far better in person. Questions are always welcome.
