De Freitas has created a subtle, wispy backyard look at American's industrial might, showing us a country food stand in the midst of oil rigs, telephone poles and other evidence of the blight that comes with industrialization. The beautifully depicted food stand is warm and charming, and the cartoonish car adds to this positive humanization of what otherwise is a desolate scene, with the city far off in the background.
The billboard on the left ready Dockham Pontiac, which unless the demise of GM has taken it away, is still somewhere around Oklahoma City.
The painting measures 19 1/2 wide and 23 1/2 high, not including the mat or the frame. There are a couple of small spots around the hanging traffic lights that are a little brown -- aging of the paper -- about the size of a quarter, otherwise it's in fine condition.
