When it comes to a man's ring from this era, this one in my opinion "has it all." I prefer a ring with some subtlety, a certain understatement if you will; and this one, with its very restrained but elegant materials and quiet design, works just right for me. I've always considered white gold or platinum to be the perfect setting for black onyx, which has a certain formality about it; and the small diamonds add that bit of festivity we like! The "S" curve the diamonds are set in adds flair to the whole package. This ring just shines in a setting where everyone's dressed to the teeth -- imagine it with a tuxedo for that final sophisticated touch...
The ring weighs about a third of an ounce (I put it on a couple of antique postal scales to come up with that!). As far as the size, the inside side-to-side (diameter) measurement is just a hair over 3/4 of an inch. The three diamonds have good sparkle and color, and the center one is larger than the two outside ones.
The diamonds poke through the platinum on the inside, which I guess is intended to allow light to travel through the stones. Um, would that be the light from your glowing countenance?
Hopefully you can make out the word "PLAT" on the inside of the ring. There's what appears to be a "C" just to the right of the word "PLAT," on the inside of the band.
I bought this ring from an antique jewelry dealer over 20 years ago (it was in near-mint condition then) and have only worn it a few times since (yes, with my tuxedo). It's in very fine condition --no overt scratches, just tiny scratches perceptible only under a magnifying glass.
I'm saying good-bye to a friend in selling this, but it's time for someone else to have his fun with it!
As far as the purity of the platinum, I'll be getting it tested and report that in this listing once I have the results...
