Kutani China Teapot Green Bamboo with Birds c. 1952-54

This Kutani teapot dates from the early-mid 1950s. The pattern is green bamboo and birds in flight. The piece is trimmed in gold.

The teapot is chipped at the back side of the spout. It does not show if the piece is on display, but it is there. There are no other chips, cracks, scratches etc. It is about 7 ¼ inches tall with the lid in place. It is about 9 inches across.

We were not able to identify the pattern, but we did identify the mark as coming from Kutani. Our research indicates that Kutani is a place name, rather than a brand. The top two characters indicate Kutani, while the bottom characters read Kyokuzan. Literally Morning Sun Mountain. Kyokuzan could be a manufacturer or shop in Kutani.
