Offered for sale is a fabulous desk that has been converted from a pianoforte that was made by Thomas Gibson, New York. Circa 1820. The conversion took place many years ago, but it is well done. The desk has the original gold label "Patent Thomas Gibson Barclay New York". This wonderful piece of furniture is said to have been made by Duncan Phyfe; In accord to an article written in Old Pianos all cases that were produced for Gibson were made by Duncan Phyfe. This fabulous find has the original hardware and finish. It has an old restoration to one of the back legs, but it is a very professional job. The desk is in good condition and structurally sound. The wood is a rich Cuban mahogany and rosewood veneer. The quality of this piece is evident in every way from the reeded and carved legs to the vibrance of the wood.
