This is an early 19th century English short pedestal dessert comport or compote, circa 1830 or later.
The comport is 2 Ό high and 8 Ύ wide. The function was to hold petit fours cakes or tiny tea sandwiches.
The porcelain is an early English soft paste. The blank is rococo, with raised flourishes, scrolls and shell-like embellishments, all highlighted in gleaming gold gild. The shell-like designs are colored a creamy yellow. The rim is a bright green ground.
The flowers on the rim are all hand painted over the green ground. The flowers are extraordinarily beautiful, and exceptionally well painted. Each cluster of flowers is totally different than any other small cluster of flowers, because they are hand painted. There are pink roses, yellow daisies, blue flowers, orange and red flowers, and so on. There are lots of flowers painted over the green ground.
The middle of the bowl is glazed white. Centered in the middle is a beautiful purple tulip and tiny blue flowers. Around the white glaze is more gold trim.
The foot has another band of green ground, banded by gold trim.
There are no chips or cracks. I cant even see any crazing under a magnifying glass. There are a few small dots of color missing from the green ground. There is a little bit of gold wear. There are some light scratches on the white glaze from utensil marks.
