Ask about Layaway terms. Look for the special porcelain & glass with bird and butterfly themes.
This is a late 19th century English art glass rose bowl, circa 1895. The maker is Webb, a glass maker from the Stourbridge area, as identified by the pontil. The glass bowl was sold to me many years ago by a seller of glass, and identified to me as being Webb. It is similar to John Walsh, or Stevens, however it is Webb.
The bowl is 4 ½” high and 6” wide.
The color of the glass is unusual. It is almost brown, but with amber or gold added. In some light, the bowl looks almost orange.
There are three applied stub feet made of clear glass with a rustic pattern.
The rim is crimped inwards six times.
The top design is machine threaded. Below the threading, circling the bowl, are etched designs of a bird perched on a leafy branch. It is a repeating pattern, so there are three birds. The bird pattern appears to be acid etched, and cameo, so that the glass around the etching has a finish, sort of like a satin finish.
There is a raspberry prunt in clear glass applied to a circular base in clear glass on the underside of the bowl, one of Webb’s trademark pontils.
There are no chips, cracks or nicks. There are some spots of dark discoloration in the glass. There are a few tiny air bubbles. The satin type of finish I mentioned has a little rubbing to it.
