This is a French Paris hard paste porcelain centerpiece bowl or compote. The set is unmarked as to maker. The date is the latter part of the 19th century, circa 1890.

There are two pieces, a centerpiece bowl with side handles and a stand with three paw feet. The tips of the paw feet are distinctive to the Paris porcelain makers and can be viewed in two photos in the book “Porcelain of Paris” by Regine de Plinval de Guillebon, on pages 186 and 187.

With the bowl resting on the stand, the height is about 7”. The bowl is about 12 ¼” wide from handle-to-handle.

The interior of the bowl is hand painted, along with a matching band around the top of the stand. Flower and berries are painted against a black enamel ground. In the center of the bowl there are two reserves of blue and yellow irises. There are red- orange berries near the handles. In the bottom center there are white flowers with yellow center, and green and white leaves, similar to geraniums, and these flowers match the border around the interior rim and on the stand. Between the reserves of flowers and berries is a pink ground covered with gold overlay circles, and more of this decoration can be seen as a border around the upper outside of the bowl.

The bowl tapers into a round foot. At the base of the foot is a band of yellow, bordered in gold trim.

There is rubbing wear on the handles, rim and paw feet. The inside of the bowl shows some scratches and darkening of the surface. There is some minor wear to the decoration. The stand shows some dirt buildup where the foot of the bowl rests. There are no chips, cracks or crazing.

The underside of both pieces is totally glazed in white. Additionally, the inside of each leg has a small drilled hole.
