This is an American art glass vase. The glass is unsigned as to the maker. The date is towards the end of the 19th century, circa 1890.

The vase is about 7 Ό” high and about 7 ½” wide at the body. The shape is like a round bowl, narrowing into a neck that ends in a 5-way crimp, forming the shape of flower opening.

The glass is pigeon blood or oxblood, which is a dark ruby red. The glass was made with real gold inside the glass, and you can see a clump of gold on the inside edge, near the bottom; I show this area in photos.

There are two stickers on the bottom, placed there by a prior owner, and the stickers read, “American Panelled Optic” and “Pigeon Blood Flower Center.” Yes, the person misspelled “paneled.”

The optic means the vase catches the light. The paneled or paneled optic means that when you look at the vase in the light, the light shows panels on the sides of the bowl. This view is not quite apparent in the photos, but it is quite visual in person.

The rim is round. The round pontil is rough.

There is some residue on the inside of the vase. There are some odd little creases and bumps in a few places in the glass. The bottom of the vase shows scratches and wear due to rubbing and age. There are no chips, cracks or nicks.
