This is a gorgeous Mt. Washington Burmese art glass vase. The date is 19th century, circa 1880 to 1895.
The vase is 3 ½” high and 2 ¾” wide.
The color is an off-white, or ivory, almost yellow, merging into shades of pink. It is extremely lovely. The finish is glossy.
As you look at the photos, note how along the rim the color goes from the pale yellow or ivory, then there is a faint line of pink around the edge.
The hand painting is done by one of the artists working for the Mt. Washington glass company. The history of the Mt. Washington glass company is such that the people painting the Burmese glass were artists, not technicians, and it is an important difference for me to make obvious. There are large leaves, painted in shades green and brown. There is a cluster of red berries or cherries dangling from a branch. The painting goes around three sides of the vase, and leaves a part of one side without any decoration.
The rim is folded out slightly, in somewhat of a tri-foil shape.
The bottom is polished smooth.
There are no chips or cracks. There is a faint line of black discoloration at one spot on the interior rim that is due to the glass making process. There is one tiny indentation in the glass under the rim on the outside and it is part of the glass making process.
