Ask about Layaway terms. Look for the special porcelain & glass with bird and butterfly themes.
This is a 19th century French hard paste porcelain coffee mug or cup, similar in style to the production and decoration of the porcelain factories around Paris and Limoges. The date is circa 1870.
The mug is about 3 ¼” high and about 3 ¼” wide.
The glaze is bright white. There is a band of blue color around the bottom, bordered on each side by pink/red line. The rim has a yellow-brown color with a pink/red line underneath it. The same color is on the handle.
On the front of the mug is a transfer design of a bird, beak open, sitting on a branch. The design appears to be a lithograph outline with the color added. The bird is blue, black and yellow. The branch, leaves and small dangling fruit (perhaps cherries) are colored in brown, green, red, blue and yellow. The opposite side of the mug shows a solitary butterfly in flight.
There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There is some fading to the yellow enamel color around the rim and handle. There are some glaze bumps on the inside of the mug.
The underside is not marked as to the maker.
