This is a 19th century French blue opaline glass perfume bottle with a jeweled lid and gilded ormolu decoration. The age is circa 1880.

The perfume bottle is approximately 3 ½” high and 2” wide.

The lid is a filigree gilded metal, most likely bronze, adorned with glass jewels, and it is hinged. The lid clicks firmly into place. The center jewel is a glass opal and the side stones are small pieces of blue glass. The center stone has a few tiny air bubbles, and some tiny areas of roughness at two ends, which is probably due to the process of soldering it to the lid. A few of the side clear blue glass stones have a few small flaws, due to age and the placement process on the lid. The tiny flaws can be seen under a magnifying glass, but are difficult to see in a photo.

The stopper is original to the bottle and is made of clear glass. The stem of the stopper is ridged. The bottom of the stopper is rough, and there may have been a dabber at one time that has long since broken off, but that is only speculation on my part.

The rim and inside neck of the glass bottle is rough and there are a few small chips in the glass.

A gilded metal ormolu decoration cascades down the side of the bottle, from the metal encased neck.

The color of the blue is darker than modern opaline, and the glass shows small flecks of white.

The bottom of the bottle is ground smooth, with a few small indentations.

There is age patina on the metal.
