This is a German porcelain vase, Bonn, Rhineland Germany, made by the Earthenware Factory Franz Anton Mehlem. The date is circa 1888 to 1900.

The vase is 13 ½” high and 6” wide from handle-to-handle.

The vase has two side handles covered in gold. There is some rubbing wear to the gold on the handles.

There is a round foot in a blush color, and brushed with gold. The gold is supposed to look like that, sort of worn, but not really worn, because it is brushed on irregularly.

The neck tapers and has the same colors and gold splotches as the foot.

The body of the vase is glazed an off-white. In the background are stems, leaves and blossoms in a pale green blue teal type of color. Up the front and back sides are wide vines with pointed thorns, in gold, black and green. There are leaves, some all gold, and some outlined in gold and colored in pink, brown, green and black shades, with touches of enamel in raised relief. The wild roses are gorgeous, outlined in gold, with gold and black and green middles, and the petals are pink, blue, gay, yellow and orange. The petals show more touches of enamel in raised relief. Around the foliage and blossoms are more splotches of gold, brushed on by the artist.

There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There is a little gold wear.

The red mark is the crown with a shield containing the monogram of FM followed by Bonn. There are some lettered numbers of 1561 followed by 6 followed by 2233, which probably designate the mold, artist and so on. There is an impressed mark, which is not legible for me to read. There is an impressed number of 261.
