This is a 20th century French hard paste porcelain toast rack holder. The maker is Pilluvuyt & Cie, a porcelain maker in Mehun-Sur-Yevre (Cher). The decorator is Delvaux, a retail store in Paris that had their own decorating studio for the professional enamel decoration of porcelain and glass by their in-house artisans. The toast holder may be artist signed by the French studio artist on the bottom, which shows as faded tiny black letters next to the decorator’s mark. The age is circa 1920 to 1930.
The toast rack is 5 1/8” long, 3 ¼” high and 2 ½” wide.
The rack can hold four pieces of toast. It is enameled a bright cheerful yellow. The sides and top are hand painted with gaily colored leaves and flowers. The middle prong has a gold covered handle, shaped somewhat like a heart. The decorating colors and style are part of the French Country style, with bright colors, perfect for the home with a yellow, red, blue or green kitchen and brightly colored dinnerware.
The green underglaze mark is C.P & Co inside a box with Mehun above and France below. The red decorating mark on this piece is Delvaux 18 Rue Royale Paris. Above the D on Delvaux, there is a tiny black mark that is difficult to read, which appears to be the artist’s signature or name.
There are no chips, cracks or crazing.
