The Doulton catalog of 1894 refers to the item as a “slop pail” and the pattern series is known as “Dutch Harlem.” The slop pail has two pieces with an attached braided wicker handle. 375/RL-18 This is a Rookwood American art pottery letter holder, dating to 1956. The letter holder is 3 1/8” high, 4” long and 2 ½” wide. The shape is rectangular, with a partition in the middle to hold two sets of envelopes. The glaze is blue or a blue-gray. The inside of the holder is a lighter shade of the glaze.
