Little Golden Book #D38 Chip 'n' Dale at the Zoo told by Annie North Bedford. Pictures by The Walt Disney Studio. Adapted by Bill Bosche from the motion picture "Working for Peanuts". 1954, "A" 1st edition, 28 pages. The book measures 8 1/4" t x 6 3/4" w.
Cover is nice except for a torn upper corner. Former owner's name in marker on the front inside cover. Pages are clean and bright and binding is tight. Price is missing.
The first Little Golden books were published by Simon & Schuster in New York, New York in 1942. The Artists and Writers Guild produced these books and Western Printing and Lithographing did the printing. The first 35 books had blue bindings and included dust jackets. After that, the dust jacket was dropped from the line and the bindings were changed to gold foil with black designs. Later foil colors were silver, red or black with various designs. In 1958, Western Publishing and Lithographing and Pocket Books Inc. became joint publishers. The company name was changed to Golden Press, Inc.
The price of the early books was 25 cents. In 1962, the price was increased to 29 cents, 39 cents in 1968, 49 cents in 1974, 59 cents in 1977, 69 cents in 1979, 89 cents in 1982 and 99 cents in 1986.
