Most attractive 19th century braided string or bracelet. ( or a chocker necklace or a child's piece of jewelry).
The braid could be macrame` or a "sinner" which is a braid or chain made with a repeated pattern of knots. There are 12 beads: 1 green chalcedony, 1 deep green jade cabochon, 1 blue lapis lazuli, 4 Venetian Florentine mosaics, 1 colored coral, 1 white turquoise or white jade, 1 black banded agate, 1 red cinnebar or carnelian which appears to have carving on it, and 1 painted porcelain bead.
There are no spacers between the beads. The painted porcelain, jade and coral do give the Asian influence to the piece. There is difficulty in dating this item, but from the workmanship of the beading, this would be mid 20th century.
This item comes for the estate of a well know Austrian collector, Dr. Heihs, who specialized in Asian antiques, especially Japanese Netsukes and Chinese gems.
