Pretty vintage 50s Siam sterling & niello demi features a 2” high heart-shaped brooch with scrolling openwork border and matching 5/8” in diameter screwback earrings. The brooch illustrates the Thai folktale of Mekhala and Ramasoon, which goes as follows:

During the rainy season Mekhala is showing off a radiant gem she owns to the other deities, when the demon Ramasoon tries to take it from her. In his pursuit of her, he hurls his diamond axe, and its cracking sound becomes the thunder, while the flashes of Mekhala’s gem are the lightning.

The brooch depicts both deities with their signature attributes (the axe and the gem), while the round earrings depict Mekhala alone. All three pieces are marked “SIAM STERLING”, and are in excellent condition with original patina.
