SOLD Vintage Whiting & Davis “Mesh Mates” MOP Ladies’ Compact in Original Box

Vintage early 50s Whiting & Davis Oromesh compact case and mother-of-pearl compact from their “Mesh Mates” line comes in the original box and appears to be unused. Goldtone compact has checkerboard squares of MOP on top, mirror and lidded powder well with puff inside. Oromesh case in cream metal mesh is lined in black faille and closes with a snapover tab with goldtone tip. Box reads “Mesh-Mates, Made or Oromesh in U.S.A. by Whiting & Davis”.

This MOP compact and case (in goldtone mesh) are pictured on page 168 of Leslie Pina & Donald-Brian Johnson's "Whiting & Davis Purses".

Case and compact are 3 ½” x 2 ¾” and are both in excellent, apparently unused condition; no marks of any kind. Box (4” x 3 ¼”) is in good condition, sturdy but with age-related discoloration and an abrasion on one end, as though a sticker was pulled off there.

One side of the box is marked with the trademark phrase “Gifts That Last”—certainly an apt description for this sweet compact and case!
