Vintage 80s wool crepe evening suit from Pierre Balmain in a rich dark burnt red references the 40s with its figure-flattering draped styling, strong shoulders, and chic yet opulent ornamentation: Embroidery and rhinestone trim on the sleeves, and all-over beading on the pencil skirt.

Fully lined and shoulder-padded for the proper shape, the longer length jacket wraps over the waist to fasten in two places (a snap over the right hip and two hooks-and-eyes over the left). A faux knot accent anchors the folds of fabric that drape diagonally across the torso, and, as if that weren't attention-grabbing enough, the sleeves, which descend to handerchief-hem like points on the outside of each wrist, are embroidered in scrolling, gold-outlined flowers and vines in brown, green, and orange, and trimmed along their cuffs in clear, prong-set rose montee rhinestones.

Also fully lined, the pencil skirt has a back zip and kick pleat, and is sprinkled all over with tonal pairs of bugle beads. Label reads "Pierre Balmain Paris"; there is no designer's label in the skirt, but both jacket and skirt have "100% wool, Made in USA" label and are tagged a vintage size 12.

Exact measurements are: Jacket bust 36", shoulders 16.5", waist 34", hips 38", sleeves 23" (25" to point), and length 26.5". Skirt waist 28", hips 36", and length 27". Excellent condition; only flaw I could find was two tiny bead loops on the skirt that seemed a trifle loose.
