An homage to the wirework and beaded granulation techniques used in ancient Etruscan jewelry, this lovely silverplate leaf brooch signed “Etrusceana” measures a whopping 4” by 2” and will be a striking accent piece for your wardrobe. (Fashion Tip: To bring out your inner film noir femme fatale, try wearing the brooch on the shoulder of a 40s jacket!) Mark is on a cartouche on the back, which has a safety catch pin stem.
According to Roberto Brunialti’s “American Costume Jewelry, M-Z”, Louis C. Mark, head designer of the Rice-Weiner jewelry manufacturing firm, trademarked and produced the “Etrusceana” line in 1941. Mark’s jewelry designs of that year tended toward exotic influences: Byzantine, Moorish, Persian, Mayan and Chinese as well as Etruscan.
Very good condition, with a bit of reddish residue on the back (see second photo).
