The long tunic—which would make a wonderful dress worn on its own—is trimmed in jewelled gold braid at the neckline, placket and hem, as are the hem of the pants. Tunic features an asymmetrical closure which zips most of the way and finishes with three fabric covered snaps; pants have a straight, fluid cut, like ethnic leggings, and close with a side zip. Both pieces are lined in brown silk.
Labelled “Bill Blass” inside the tunic, with a “Bergdorf Goodman on the Plaza, New York” label at the hem of the tunic. Both pants and tunic are tagged a vintage size 12, and the tunic has a blue ILGWU label as well. Exact measurements are: Tunic bust 35”, shoulders 15”, waist 34”, hips 38”, sleeves 22.5”, and length 39”. Pants waist 26”, hips 35”, inseam 28”, and length 41”.
This exceptional set is in good condition, with three areas of rubbing or wear through to the velvet, from pinprick-sized to 1/16” in diameter; the first is on the front top right of the tunic (photo #5), the second is at about waist level in the front center of the tunic (photo #6), and the third is 6” down on the front center of the pants (photo #7). All three areas are well-camouflaged, both by the print and by the brown silk lining backing them. In addition, the hook to the hook-and-eye closure at the side of the pants is missing; though I cannot provide a matching hook to the original, custom (beige) enamelled eye, I’ll be happy to replace the entire set (with a contemporary hook-and-eye) at the buyer’s request.
