Lined in fuchsia satin, the interior has lipstick and compact holders on one side, and a slot pocket on the other. The little jewel-topped perfume bottle was likely not original to the purse; I am including it, as found, nonetheless.
Evans introduced metal “carryall” purses in the late 30s which had wrist-straps and built-in compartments for cosmetics and, frequently, cigarettes. Carryalls and their cousins, vanity purses (with compartments for ladies’ accessories) became quite popular, showing up in a variety of designs (sometimes with rhinestone accents, or fabric-covered like this one), and lingering until the mid-50s. The tapestry motifs and deco-style clasp of this example date it to the early 50s, or perhaps even the very late 40s.
Very good condition, with light wear to the gold plating of the frame on top.
