Vintage miniatures are great Americana -- one-of-a-kind images of the early Americans that made this country great. This wonderful 2" x 2-1/4" oval water color on ivory image is of a prominent Gregory, Wayne County, Kentucky young woman, probably from the 1830s-1860s. Framed in an exquisite 4" square ivory inlay and gold frame.
Painting is undated and unsigned. However, under the old fibreboard backing is an oval leather disk with "Gregory KY" and an illegible name (or two names) in pencil. Gregory, a small early Southeastern Kentucky settlement in Wayne County, dates back to 1800-1810. Named for the Gregory family, whose descendants are active Wayne County historians and genealogists.
Great earl Americana image in nice condition and in a great frame!
