Vintage Louis Marx wind-up walker toy (with rare original box in great condition!) - ventriloquist Edgar Bergen's radio character "Mortimer Snerd" during from 1936 to 1955, and later on television during the '50s. Mortimer was Charley McCarthy's dopey hayseed country cousin from Snerdville.
Mortimer is 8-1/2" high; dressed in a bright blue and yellow checked sport coat and pants, red tie, and yellow shoes; and carrying a bouquet of flowers and box of candy for his sweetheart.
Mechanisms works well. Mortimer's bowler hat bobs up and down as he shuffles along. Paint is in wonderful shape; and the colors are exceptionally bright! Slight rubbing wear on hands, nose and cheeks.
Original box is also in great condition - not tears. Mortimer's picture is on all four sides. Box is marked "25 cents" in pencil - talk about aging well!!
