Early hand crafted Shaker table swift features original yellow paint aged to a beautiful mustard colored patina. It is in absolutely perfect condition.
Scribe marks are clearly visible on sliding sleeve that opens swift. Exquisite craftsmanship attributed to Brother Thomas Hammond. We have never seen a more beautiful swift than this one. A wonderful authentic Shaker piece.
Table swifts are accessories used by spinners and seamstresses for winding yarn. This one is 24" long x 3" diameter (closed). The base is 2 1/2" in diameter. The swift has two wooden thumbscrews: one to hold it to table; and one holding the sliding sleeve secure once the swift has been opened for use.
Strong provenance; one of several selected items from a private Shaker collection from Lenox, MA (about 10 miles from the Hancock, MA Community) sold at auction in Mt Lebanon, NY in 2002.
