This vintage Shaker side chair is from the Watervliet New York Community dates to 1840-1850. This chair pre-dates the tilter mechanism developed by Mount Lebanon Shaker craftsman; instead the back legs legs gave been cut an angle to the chair naturally tilts back against the wall. Tilters allowed Shaker brothers to more easily (and more safely) recline and balance their chairs against meeting house and residence walls.

This great three slatted ladderback chair is in great condition with a wonderful maple finish. Rush seat appears old if not original.

Came from a private Boston collection sold at auction in New Lebanon, NY in 2002.

Item ID: 42-0006
