Authentic antique Shaker table with pull through drawer for two sisters sewing work. Classic Shaker workmanship. Unusual square-topped cherry and pine work stand in original dark stained varnish finish, with turned shaft on arched legs. Dovetailed drawer can be opened on either side. Notice the top of the front is half dovetailed onto the sides. Two sisters on either side of the table could work at the same time - a great example of famous Shaker efficiency of design.

Purchased at private auction of all Shaker items held at the Shaker Village Museum in Hancock MA. Background research on this unusual item has not been completed. However, the design and craftsmanship is consistent with other work stands crafted by the Hancock MA Community artisans in the mid 19th Century.

Item ID: 42-0001
