1910s vintage Boston Massachusetts real photo stereo view of "Old North Church" (officially Christ Church), at 193 Salem Street, in Boston's North End. Old Copps Hill Burying Ground in to the left foreground.

It is said that from this 191 foot steeple the famous "One if by land, and two if by sea" signal was sent to across the Charles River to Charlestown patriots in conjunction with the "midnight ride" by Paul Revere (and William Dawes) of April 18, 1775 before the the Battles of Lexington & Concord during the American Revolution. Actually, the lanterns were a "back-up" plan for sending the same warning regarding the movements of the British Army, that Revere and William Dawes were delivering by horse to Lexington. One lantern was to notify Charlestown that the British Army would come by way of Boston Neck and the Great Bridge, and two were to notify them that the troops would come by boats across the Charles landing near Phips farm. This story was later memorialized in Longfellow's poem, "Paul Revere's Ride" - and memorized by millions of American school children.

Built in 1723, the Old North Church was inspired by the works of British architect Christopher Wren who rebuilt London after the Great Fire. Inside is a bust of George Washington, considered by the Marquis de Lafayette to be the best likeness of him he had ever seen.

Curve mounted view #6172 published by Keystone View Company of Meadville PA; New York City; Portland, Oregon; London; and Sydney Australia. Copyright is undated. View appears to date to the early 1900s. Text on the back describes Old North Church and its history.

3-D EFFECT: The 3-D effect, particularly of the people and surrounding buildings in the foreground, is exceptional.

PHOTO NOTE: The actual images are albumen (sepia toned) real photos that are clean, crisp, sharp and in good condition - the actual images are MUCH sharper through a stereoviewer than they appear in the scanned images. Small age-related surface scratches and wear marks are accentuated by the scanning process and are almost completely imperceptible in the viewer.

CONDITION NOTE: Card is in very fine condition with no tears or creases.
