Bigger than New York’s Central Park, Golden Gate Park - designed by William Hammond Hall- covers 1,013 acres, and is about 3 miles long and 1/2-mile wide - with over one million trees, nine lakes, several fly casting pools and a lily pond within its borders. John McLaren succeeded Hall in 1887, and spent the next 50 years improving the park. By corresponding with gardeners and botanists all over the world, McLaren was able to gather plants — and particularly trees — from every land but one, Bolivia.
PHOTO NOTE: The photo images are very clean, crisp, sharp and in exceptional condition - with only slight surface wear noticeable in scans - much better than they appear in the scanned image - as if it just came out of the box.
