Lovely small water color painting of Fall tree foliage and rural pond signed by Clara Maxfield (Arnold), well listed Rhode Island artist. It has been re-matted and reframed to better display this wonderful celebration of the rich brown and yellow colors of Fall. The image of this diminutive work measures 8" x 5" without frame.
Clara Maxfield Arnold (1879-1959) was born in East Providence; studied under and later married the artist John Nelson Arnold. This painting is one of her earlier paintings, and probably painted prior to her marriage (circa 1900-1910).
The simplicity of this painting is deceptive. It grows on you - warming you up on a cold winter day and cooling you down on a hot summer day.
