Vintage early American hand-carved wooden trencher from western Massachusetts in old mottled blue gray paint is exceptionally large (38" long x 18" wide x 7" high) - hand carved out of a single piece of wood - probably birch. The size alone attests to its age - most large trees were long gone in New England by the 1830s. Very nice condition. Interior is "worm wood" which adds to its character and charm.
