The moriage on the dragon is not as thick as some but it done in the gold beading with a thicker raised oval dots border in the marbled light pink and green. The eyes are realistic and have black dotted pupils. Absolutely stunning.
Measuring 11 1/2" tall to the top of the knob on the lid, the moriage is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or repairs to this piece. There is some minor wear to the gold on bottom rim and on knob. The piece also had very old dried rose petals inside so there is some rose smell. Really smells nice however I am sure it could be removed.
This piece, like a good portion of Japanese moriage, is unmarked.
I have found two other pieces online using this lidded urn shape. One was a traditional dragonware in the grey and white which was also unmarked and the other is painted with a gooseberry design and is marked with the maple leaf Nippon mark.
An absolutely gorgeous piece of early Moriage dragonware.
