Steeped in legend and somewhat misunderstood, there is something about a Geisha that attracts us and compels our interest. The word Geisha is composed in Japanese of two Kanji characters. The first means “art” and the second means “doer” or “person”. The word steers us into looking at a Geisha as an actress in a way. The attraction for me is that a Geisha seems to seek beauty within a stylized and formal way.

This necklace starts with a beautiful vintage Satsuma button. This tiny masterpiece was painted by hand. I particularly like the way the artist was able to depict the flow of the silk in the kimono of the Geisha.

Since these buttons are valuable and gaining in value, I have used a mechanical method of attaching the button into the necklace and have used no permanent adhesives. It is possible to extract the button by removing the heart shaped brass stamping from the back of the necklace and drilling out the different colored wood behind it.

A small bezeled tanzanite embellishes the African black wood enclosure. An enameled fan hangs below the Geisha. The kumihimo cords that finish the necklace are done in colors that echo the kimono. The closure is a round gold-filled box type clasp. Your necklace will be sent in the wooden box pictured at the left.

Overall length is 20 ¾ inches. Size of the pendant is 2 ¾ by 1 ½ inches, or 69 MM X 38 MM.

There are no additional shipping charges for jewelry. Thanks so much for visiting my shop!
