We are pleased to offer this extraordinary Stonelain Vase.

The Stonelain Pottery produced a relatively small body of work, and vases are not very frequently seen. It is the height of post WWII Mid Century Modern ware. Stonelain pottery was produced as part of the Associated American Artists. The AAA was formed as an art gallery in New York in 1934, and after World War II, they expanded their offerings, including the addition of Stonelain Pottery. AAA recognized artists as “designers” and the pottery produced in this era was certainly making a design statement!

This is a classically shaped vase. It has a narrow foot with a wider shoulder and a small opening. The glaze on this piece is extraordinary! Try as we may, we cannot produce a photograph that shows the bright, pure color and the depth and dimension of the glaze. It is a metallic, shaded cerulean blue glaze with faux crazing under the high shine surface. The coloring shades ever so slightly from darker at the base to a medium blue at the shoulder. The collar around the opening has a soft baby blue that quietly brings attention to the top of this stunning piece.

This vase is an even more exciting find when one examines the marks on the bottom. The impressed “Stonelain” across the outline of the ewer is present, as are the intertwined “S” initials of master potters Frances Server and William Soini. The mark is not heavily impressed, but the important elements are evident. In addition, the Soini and Server signatures are added in black.

It measures about 5 ˝” tall and 2 ˝” across the bottom.

Excellent Condition: no cracks, age crazing, nicks or chips. There are many pindot indents on the glaze which are a result of the glazing process. Any white dots or spots in the pictures are a light reflection, not surface or glaze flaws.

This is a lovely piece of Stonelain Pottery and one that almost went into my personal collection! The color is so exceptional that it would be hard to not fall in love with this beautiful piece! Don’t miss the opportunity to add a rare item to your collection! We are always offering a nice selection of vintage goodies, so please take a look through our shop. We would be pleased to combine shipping on multiple purchases.

Thank you for looking!
