Welcome! Please ask about our multiple item discounts and flexible Layaway Plan!
This handmade piece is gorgeous! It has a perfect patina and is a very tightly made knife. The blade has a groove on one side to aid in unfolding the knife, and the blade has a sharpened edge. The handle has 3 metal rivets that hold it together.
It is ca. 1840-1870 and is probably sailor made. This example is much larger than most, which were usually used as toothpicks. This example actually works like a modern day jackknife!
It is unsigned and measures almost 6 ¼” long when open and almost 3 ¼” when closed. The handle is about ½” wide and just over ¼” thick.
Condition: excellent patina, rivets and all joints are tight; one chip on the handle at a rivet (please see pictures); the blade opens and closes easily.
This is a striking piece and it would be an exceptional addition to any collection! Don't miss the opportunity to expand your collection or to purchase an ideal gift for a favorite collector! We always have a nice selection of vintage goodies in our shop, including more ivory items, so please take a look at our other offerings. We would be pleased to combine shipping on multiple purchases.
