Beautiful Condition for this charming early 20th Century Hat!
Lovely, in a comfortable, "sporty" style, this mid-late "'teens" hat is in near perfect condition! Hat is made from tightly woven straw, decorated with Black Velvet (Cotton) Ribbons in a "cross-hatch" pattern. The Ribbons measure approximately 3/8" wide. The brim of the Hat is decorated with dozens of Natural Ostrich feathers, dyed a deep Black. The feathers are all in Very Good Condition and have very little "shedding". This band of feathers measures approximately 3" wide.
The underside is lined in Black Silk, which appears to have been hand-stitched. The lining is in Very Good Condition with a few very light "worn spots" along the crown edge and no tears. The Rim of the underside of the hat is lined with a rich, Deep Black cotton Velvet. There is no puckering of the fabric, all is completely smooth, however, a small portion of the straw underneath is beginning to show at the edges.
The inside measurement of the hat is approximately 22 1/2" in circumference, about a medium-size head. The brim diameter is about 21" wide. This hat is meant to be worn set back on the head, with the Black Velvet underside showing and the feathers loosely blowing in a gentle wind.
Spectacular Edwardian styling, this hat I believe was hand-made approximately 1914-19. Beautiful condition especially when you note that this hat is almost 100 years old!
Shipping is via UPS in the USA, to be determined by your zip code. This is the least expensive way, Priority Mail is also available ( available for International Buyers). The hat is very light weight, however, is quite large in width and requires a large ( considered oversized box by all shipping services) box and alot of packaging to keep it from crushing during shipment.
If you live in the Charleston SC (USA) area, you may save $$ on shipping by picking up the hat at my office by appointment only .There is a small packaging fee.
