This charming, oversized (8" x 5 3/4") valentine has an upper layer of fancy, diecut florals - placed on the accordion-type tabs to give a two-tiered, layered effect (please see closeup photos). The bottom layer has lots of colorful flowers (daisies & forget-me-nots) and gilded highlights. The primary scene is of a house and white picket fence near a quiet, country lane. Two appliques show a cupid face in a red rose and a cupid delivering valentines while wearing a postal cap and carrying a mail bag. The verse inside the greeting card gives much praise to the beauty of the recipient:

"If they gather all the sunbeams from the brightest day in June; / Mingle Marigolds and Lilies in the sweetest of their bloom, / Add to these the reddest Roses, and the Gentian's deepest hue; / Then they'd have a halfway idea of the winsome face o' you."

This valentine card is in very good condition with no missing pieces. There are a few creases around the corners and rounded edges and penciled names on the inside. There is one tear on the lower righthand corner of back page (please see final closeup photo). The back is marked "Whitney Made Worcester Mass."
