A truly remarkable plaque. The detail, colors and atmosphere of the scene are quite striking and draw you into this intimate gathering of weary men, horses and hounds. I believe this is adapted from a painting by Heywood Hardy, noted British portraitist and celebrated painter of equestrian and canine subjects (1843-1933). Please note that there is minimal gold wear to the ornate stencil border around the rim - any white patches are due to camera glare.

If in museum quality condition, this display plate would be worth $250-300. The front IS in excellent condition. The back, however, has some damage, which is reflected in the price. The piece that is missing from the back rim is smooth and glazed over. It could very well have come from the factory that way as an the end-of-day item. The inside rim opposite the one in the photo is slightly indented as well. This likely occurred when it was drilled for the hanger. Many fine companies, Bing and Grondahl, and dozens of others still release flawed items, but mark them with a checkmark or inked dot. Regardless, this is still a great piece. Made during late-1880s to early 1890s by C. Knoll, Carlsbad, Austria. A top-of-the-line Carlsbad item, made of fine, hard-paste porcelain - when tapped with the finger, this plate rings like lead crystal. Front and sides are in superb condition. This very special plaque has an appealing deep-welled form and measures 10 1/2" across and 1 1/2" deep. Thank you for taking time to browse my shop!
