Vintage Murray-Allen Tin Container, Greek Maidens Dancing in Laurel Groves, Gilded Medallions & Filigree

This lidded "Grecian Classic" tin container features young ladies dancing among sacred trees near an ancient marble altar. The scene is meant to suggest rituals seen on so many ancient Greek works of art - although with a decidedly modern flair in their hairstyle and one lady's dress. The white figural composition against a deep blue background is reminiscent of the many lines of Wedgwood wares that included scenes of ancient Greece and Rome. Gold-toned borders of leaves and ornate shield medallions embellish the tin.

The tin measures 5" x 3 3/8" and is 5 1/2" tall. It is in good/very good condition with a clean interior and no dents; the lid fits securely. There is minimal wear to the primary images on both sides and to one of the two shield/altar images found on each side. One shield has minor surface rust in spots. The gold-toned borders on lid and base have minor wear - spotty surface tarnish and light pitting. The handle and base ring have moderate, overall surface tarnish and wear with underlying dark metal showing through in most places. The base carries a Murray-Allen trademark and the text "Imported Quality Confections; Murray-Allen Imports Inc / New Rochelle, NY U.S.A. and / Murray-Allen Imports Limited Montreal, Canada" and "Container Made in England" and "Grecian Classic".
