Each of these lovely plates features three bouquets of amethyst, lilac and pale blue violets painted in a symmetrical, Art Nouveau pattern - sometimes referred to as the "Conventional style", rather than being 'naturalistic'. The early American artist (Green) applied a pale cream background with pale hints of peach and powder blue in the areas where the three tendrils of tiny violet buds drape from the bouquets down toward the center. The rim is trimmed in grass-green scrolls and a heavy band of gold. The look is comparable to that of the larger studios of the early 1900s, but perhaps simply done by a talented amateur in this example.

Each 7 5/8" plate carries the crossed flower J & C. Bavaria mark used from 1898 into the very early 1900s. In excellent condition with no chips, nicks, cracks or hairlines. Some of the plates have one or two, faint firing pops and stray (and very faint) scratches which can be seen if the plate is tilted under a raking light. Gold wear to rim is minimal (ca. 5%) and there is minimal wear to florals. Please stop by again when you're browsing on Ruby Lane!
