The talented, early 1900s artist of this lovely plate had a nice sense of color & shading, as well as good attention to detail. Delicate blossoms are done in shades of cotton candy, ice pink and blush rose with mint green centers and feathery white stamens covered with golden pollen. The thorny branches are filled with velvet leaves in colors of moss, teal, and mint - perfect for suggesting a shady bower. Distant leaves are given a shadowy appearance and painted in powder blue, robin egg blue, lavender and blueish slate. Beyond the blossoms, a soft pale lemon wash gives the feeling of gentle, early morning sunlight.
The 8 1/2" plate is of the Louise pattern mold and carries the crossed flower J & C. Bavaria mark used from 1898 into the very early 1900s. In excellent condition with no chips, nicks, cracks or hairlines. There is one thin, wispy scratch in lower leaf area. Gold wear to rim is minor (ca. 10%) and minimal paint wear to florals.
