A contemporary of Charles Gibson, Pierce's pencil and wash illustrations were considered comparable to the famous "Gibson Girls" and were shown in early issues of the Ladies Home Journal, among other publications. This lady relaxes on the tapestry pillow of a bedroom bench. The open book that she loosely hold in her lap, her softly-upswept hair, unbuttoned bodice and gentle expression with the beginnings of a smile, all suggest she may be taking a break from reading poetry in an intimate, at-home setting. Perhaps she is thinking of a new love...

This card is postally unused. It has a space designated for a one-cent stamp and a 1902 copyright for Armour & Co. (Chicago). It is artist-signed, and entitled, "The Thomas Mitchell Pierce Girl" and is identified as a postcard of 'The American Girl Series'. In very good condition with minimal edge and minor corner wear. There is light soiling along the bottom white area.
