The beautiful jade-green rim of this scalloped plate is decorated with a highly ornate, gilded pattern of butterflies hovering above a chain of medallions and stylized urns of flowers. A thick, hand painted gold overlay with embossed scrolling, plumes and lattice work surrounds the central, Courtly Love scene which is a transfer adapted from a work by F. Stahl. Two aristocratic ladies in Marie Antoinette-styled costumes flutter their fans as they listen to a young troubadour/minstrel serenading them on his lute. They are enjoying the entertainment within a grassy, bucolic landscape. The transfer has lovely colors and the gold overlay shows very fine detailing!

This plate measures 8 3/4" in diameter. In very good condition with no chips, nicks, cracks or hairline. There is minor gold wear around the intricate gilded border and on the ornate gold frame surrounding the beautiful central scene - ca. 10%.

Friedrich Stahl was a German artist (1863-1940). Victoria Porcelain Factory (Altrohlau & Carlsbad, Bohemia) operated c.1883-1945 (as Schmidt & Co. in the beginning). This mark was used during 1891-1918. Carlsbad is in the western region (Bohemia) of the modern Czech Republic. The region had many kaolin mines - a key component for making hard paste porcelain. This company was known for its high quality porcelain and is highly valued by collectors.
