By looking at this lovely sugar bowl in person, and actually holding and feeling it, one can clearly tell that it is one of the earlier pieces of porcelain from Nippon (Japan) and made before 1891. It is composed of an extremely fine porcelain composition, hand painted and has a very appealing "ribbed", melon body. This was part of a collection of Nippon wares, some of which were unmarked and the rest had the E-OH Nippon backstamp. It was clear that the same artists were responsible - the same pigments (paint colors) and same molds were used, but the ones made after 1891 were marked.
Measures 5 1/2" from handle to handle and is 4 1/2" tall. It sits on a base with small, delicately scalloped, short "feet". In excellent condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines or crazing, No loss of paint and only minimal gold wear, ca. 5%. Thanks for visiting!
