Wonderful Vintage Decorative Tin, Fragonard Courtly Love Scenes, Ornate Gold Filigree, 1940s-50s

If you love surrounding yourself with romantic, vintage items with 'Old World' colors and themes, this large, decorative tin container is just right for you! Against the black matte background are elaborate gold-metallic designs of medallions, stylized florals and filigree. The look is similar to that of a tole painting. Five vignettes of flirtatious couples, meeting in idyllic landscapes, are repeated around the perimeter. One of the scenes, a man serenading his lady love, is featured on the lid. This colorful image is set within a large, raised gold metallic frame - gorgeous!

This vintage container measures 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" and is in very good condition with no dings or bends. There is light surface tarnishing in the interior, around gold frame on lid and on bottom where it rested on a surface. There is light surface rust along seams and slight pitting on images around the perimeter - does not go deeply into metal fabric nor mar the overall appearance of the pictures (please see closeup photos). Embossed on the bottom is "Atlantic Can Delawanna NJ".

This rare and unusual tin will make a very special place to store mementos, love letters, sewing notions, etc. Thanks very much for looking around in my shop!
