This extraordinary, unmarked bowl was likely made prior to the Nippon era (1891-1921). The small circle on the bottom, often called a "doughnut" or ring mold, is typical of the older Nippon items. The distinctive design, gorgeous colors and masterful workmanship make this a wonderful addition to any collection - or as a singular, pride-of-place item for your home. The superb artistry features hundreds of beads, perhaps as many as a thousand, and exquisite floral garlands and gold scrolling and filigree. The brightly colored florals against the white porcelain, six-pointed, central star motif are beautiful. But my favorite aspect of this piece is the gorgeous, dark turquoise of the interior walls. The gently molded rim, with its bright green and gold beaded trim, is a perfect compliment to the richness of the turquoise. It appears to have been hand thrown - notice the moderately asymmetrical shape - and is completely hand painted. Please see all the closeup photos to appreciate the beauty of this display bowl.
In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing - minimal paint and gold war, ca. 5%. Thanks very much for stopping by!
