Music of the Spheres - "Musica Mundana", usually translated as "Music of the Spheres", was a treatise written by the early medieval philosopher, Boethius. In it, he explores the perfection of God's universe as represented by the dance of the heavenly spheres and the music which their harmonic movement produces. Although inaudible to human ears, this music informs all life, which Boethius believes carries the pattern of celestial harmony within its varied forms.

This necklace represents that music. Using fine wire of sterling silver, I created a pattern of gemstones to reflect the dance of the planets: here you will find iolite, aquamarine, garnet, tourmaline of pink, green and brown, peridot, citrine, apatite, amethyst, lemon quartz, smokey quartz and natural clear quartz. The stones are suspended within a frame I made from heavy square sterling silver wire, and hanging from a link of rope-textured sterling is a single briolette of purple chalcedony. The plaque suspends from chain which mirrors the dance of the cosmos with its repetition of the sphere in fine rope textured links.

The plaque measures 1.25" x 2.25"; the chain, which finishes with a simple sterling silver toggle clasp, measures 17.5" and the chalcedony drop adds 1" to the length. This art piece ships in a gift box.
